Bizshe, Bizshe bee’s

“Bizshe”, another one of Mary Reese’s new words. I’ve explained to MR that being “bizshe” is a good thing, but that sometimes, it means neglecting the things that you love. For instance, my blog. Or exercising. Or taking showers and putting on makeup. All of the things have taken a back seat due to our busy schedules.

Here is a brief run down of the last week…

Wednesday night we attended a surprise birthday for Aunt B at an awesome restaurant called Flip Burger. If you’re ever in the Atlanta area and want to be around the young, hip crowd, this is the place to go. MR thoroughly enjoyed herself. She made friends with a young woman at the bar, despite pulling on her large hoop earrings time and time again. She flirted her way into the hearts of countless men and pretty much had the entire restaurant eating out of the palm of her hand.

We liked Flip Burger so much that we headed back there on Friday night to eat with Garrett’s mom and step dad. They were kind enough to drive 5 hours in the rain to spend the weekend with Mary Reese. MR loved having Danny and Papa at the house. She took full advantage of getting any and everything she wanted.

After a short nap this afternoon, MR was off again. This time, she was headed back to Griffin to visit her other set of grandparents, who are passing through on their way to North Georgia. Although her visit with Papa Joe and Meme (Garrett’s dad and step mom) will be short, she will get to see them next weekend as they travel back to Waycross.

While G and MR enjoy their afternoon in Griffin, I have opted to stay behind to complete a few Petey Pie orders. It has been one month since I have opened my etsy shop and in that time, I have made more than 50 shirts!!! It is such a blessing to not only have a creative outlet, but to also know that I am able to provide a little “fun” money to the pot. Thank you all for placing orders and for helping me to spread the word!

MR is an equal opportunist when it comes to boys…

Thank the good Lord for front porches and rocking chairs! We’ve had a front row seat to the three inches of rain that we have received over the last few days.

Pink Converse and tractors

I’ve got more pictures than you could shake a stick at. Three hundred and twenty one to be exact. Here’s a look at our weekend trip to Griffin. As you can see, farm life definitely suits sweet MR! Get ready G, she’s going to be asking for her own farm soon….

When I think of Spring, I think of…

Spring flowers, which I have been known to illegally pick.

Spring Cleaning with new, smell good products. Nothing excites me more than a new bottle of Windex; it will clean almost anything!.

The Spring get in shape club, which I desperately need to join unless I plan on wearing sweat pants for the rest of the summer.

And Spring photo shoots with sweet Mary Reese, who all but rolls her eyes at me when I grab the camera. Our poor neighbors probably roll their eyes too. Picture sessions with Carly consist of jumping up and down and making obnoxious noises in an effort to get babygirl to smile.

Whale isn’t she something…

at least she thinks she is. And we would have to agree. Last night, we took MR to the Market Village for the St Patrick’s day celebration. The Aveda salon was the highlight of the evening. MR ran into the hair salon at least a dozen times. It was as if she was begging for a haircut…her first haircut that her mother refuses to be a part of. Thank the good Lord for these sweet Petal Pusher hairclips

Ok, I know….another shamless plug for Petey Pie’s, but a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do! And, because I know that my sweet husband does not read this, I can tell you that all sales are going to the purchase of a new grill for him. He simply refuse to spend money on himself and I cannot bare the thought of spring coming without having a grill to enjoy. Oh, and while I’m begging for business, please take a minute to join the facebook fan page for Petey Pie’s!

Add these to your recipe box

You don’t have to leave your home to travel oversees. Thanks to Betty Crocker, last week was deemed International week at the Harvey  house. Tired of meatball Monday and taco Tuesday, I decided to branch out and try a few recipes. Here were a few of our favorites:

Sweet and sour pork:

1 lb boneless pork loin chops, cut into 1-inch cubes
1 egg, beaten
3/4 cup Original Bisquick® mix
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 1/2 cups frozen bell pepper and onion stir-fry (from 1-lb bag)
1 can (8 oz) pineapple chunks, drained
1 jar (11 1/2 oz) sweet-and-sour sauce

1. In medium bowl, toss pork with egg. In 1-gallon resealable food-storage plastic bag, place Bisquick mix, salt and pepper; seal bag and shake to mix. Drain excess egg from pork. Place pork cubes in plastic bag; seal bag and shake to coat.
2. In 12-inch nonstick skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Place pork in single layer in skillet. Cook 6 to 8 minutes, turning occasionally, until brown and crispy on outside and no longer pink in center. Drain on paper towels. Cover to keep warm.
3. Reserve 1 tablespoon oil in skillet; discard any remaining oil. Add bell pepper mix and pineapple; cook over medium-high heat 2 to 3 minutes, stirring frequently, until vegetables are crisp-tender. Stir in sweet-and-sour sauce and pork; heat to boiling.

Chicken Alfredo with Sun-Dried Tomato Cream:

1 tablespoon olive oil
4 boneless skinless chicken breasts (about 1 lb)
1 medium onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
1 box Chicken Helper® fettuccine Alfredo
1 cup hot water
1 cup half-and-half
1/4 cup chopped dry-pack sun-dried tomatoes
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil leaves

1. In 10-inch skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add chicken and onion; cook 15 to 18 minutes, stirring onion frequently and turning chicken once, until onion is tender and juice of chicken is clear when center of thickest part is cut (170°F). Remove from heat; cover to keep warm.
2. Meanwhile, fill 2-quart saucepan 2/3 full of water. Heat to boiling. Stir in uncooked pasta (from Chicken Helper box). Gently boil uncovered about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender; drain. Set aside.
3. In same saucepan, mix hot water, half-and-half, tomatoes and sauce mix (from Chicken Helper box). Heat to boiling. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sauce is slightly thickened.
4. Cut chicken into slices. To serve, spoon cooked pasta onto serving plate. Arrange chicken slices and onion over pasta. Top with sauce mixture. Sprinkle with basil.

Spinach and Artichoke Lasagna

1 medium onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 can (14 oz) vegetable broth
1 tablespoon chopped fresh or 1 teaspoon dried rosemary leaves
1 can (14 oz) artichoke hearts, drained, coarsely chopped
1 box (9 oz) Green Giant® frozen chopped spinach, thawed, squeezed to drain
1 jar (15 to 17 oz) roasted garlic Parmesan or Alfredo pasta sauce
9 uncooked lasagna noodles
3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (12 oz)
1 package (4 oz) crumbled herb-and-garlic feta cheese (1 cup)

1. Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 13×9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish with cooking spray.
2. Spray 12-inch skillet with cooking spray; heat over medium-high heat. Add onion and garlic; cook about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until onion is crisp-tender. Stir in broth and rosemary. Heat to boiling. Stir in artichokes and spinach; reduce heat. Cover; simmer 5 minutes. Stir in pasta sauce.
3. Spread 1/4 of the artichoke mixture in bottom of baking dish; top with 3 noodles. Sprinkle with 3/4 cup of the mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers twice. Spread with remaining artichoke mixture; sprinkle with remaining mozzarella cheese. Sprinkle with feta cheese.
4. Cover and bake 40 minutes. Uncover and bake about 15 minutes longer or until noodles are tender and lasagna is bubbly. Let stand 10 to 15 minutes before cutting.

Our future is looking bright

Who knew that a sewing machine and a few yards of fabric could make me this happy? Im up to 20 orders now and having the time of my life! Thank you all so much for supoporting me on this journey. It is such a blessing to be able to stay at home with Mary Reese and contribute to our finances.

A few noteworthy changes…Sweet Cheeks is “gaw gone” (all gone) as Mary Reese would say. Since there was already a Sweet Cheeks on etsy, there was some confusion as to how to find my products. For that reason, I have decided to rename the store Petey Pie’s. Petey Pie has long been a nickname of MR’s and I think it really captures the playful nature of the brand. You can still find my etsy shop here (it’s the same address). In the next few weeks, I hope to have a web site, a logo, business cards, and labels. A lot to do, but oh so exciting! Please continue to spread the word about Petey Pie’s and let me know if you have any suggestions as to how to make this brand even better!

But for now, here is Petey Pie herself…

“Bosh” (Boss)

is his nickname. His smile is contagious and his laughter more than fills the room. He’s got us all wrapped around finger and I can’t remember life without him. What a true blessing it was to spend the weekend with my niece and nephew!

“Heney” and “Muryeese”

are too cute for words. Their weekend visit was much too short, but such a special memory. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that these cousins will be neighbors in the months to come. Stay tuned for pictures of the “Bosh” man…

Even the child locks on the door knobs couldn’t keep these two out.
